TC of Belper has suffered from migraines.
I heard an article on the radio during Craniosacral Therapy Awareness Week. On the programme, the therapist said that he had successfully treated someone with migraine after only a few sessions. The lady returned following a particularly stressful period and her migraines are now under control.
My migraines had increased to around 2 a week by this time, so I was willing to give anything a go. From the radio interview, I knew that it was a very gentle therapy and, at worst, I would have a pleasant and relaxing treatment and at best, it might help my migraines. I wasn't expecting a complete cessation, but if they were less severe and less frequent, I would view that as a success.
I contacted the registered body for cranio-sacral therapists and arranged an appointment. The treatment was indeed relaxing and during the first session, I had the sensation of something releasing at the back of my skull. I can only describe it as similar to the feeling you get after getting water trapped in your ear and then the warm water is released. From that point on, I did not have any further migraines.
During the second treatment, I had feelings of a very gentle wave going through my body from my feet to my skull. I had a third session and decided to experiment to see how long it would be, until I had another migraine, without treatment.
I am pleased to say that it was nearly three months until the next migraine and that migraine responded well to medication and cleared within 30 minutes. During this time, I did not make any changes to my life-style and can only assume it was the therapy that achieved this.
I too have gone through a very stressful time of late and unfortunately my migraines are back, so I have now returned to see Richard again. When I am migraine-free again, I plan to see Richard periodically to keep them in check.
Another patient wrote:
I have found the cranio-sacral sessions gentle, non-invasive and the most beneficial treatment I have received during the past five years since being diagnosed with migraine.
After the first session, I left feeling that nothing much had happened but over the following days my symptoms began to improve and continued to improve after subsequent treatments.
Because the migraines were so frequent I found I was unable to carry on my normal life and became very low mentally as well as physically but I now have the energy to tackle problems and take on new challenges.
Other benefits have been an improved sleep pattern and a sense of well-being as well as elevated energy levels.
Richard has a very relaxed, caring and professional approach to his work and although I have been told by a neurologist consultant that I may never be completely free from migraine, I feel happy to continue top-ups with Richard when and if the need arise.
RGJ of Kings Bromley writes about cranio-sacral therapy:
I became intrigued about cranio-sacral therapy, whilst typing a piece written by Richard Evans for the Alrewas Parish News. I actually recommended it to a friend whose son had a jaw problem, but then realised that I might actually find it useful as I suffer from osteoarthitis. This is mainly in my knees and I had a bilateral arthroscopy last August but the knees were still stiff and achy and I was beginning to notice that my hips, shoulders and fingers were beginning to ache as well. I decided to keep an open mind and try a course of six to see what happened. I didn't notice too much of a change during the first session, but that evening I realised that I felt quite energised and not tired at all and was still lively at midnight when normally I crawl off to bed at 11pm.
Later that week I noticed that I was also sleeping much better than I usually did ( I often would be woken up by aches in my knees or hips). After a couple of sessions I realised that the soreness in my hips had gone and I'm happy to say that it hasn't returned. I have now had five sessions and my knees feel much easier and I even surprised my husband by overtaking him when we were out shopping last week as I am usually crawling along behind! I suddenly felt I could stride out-and did so-with no pain or discomfort. The sessions themselves are very relaxing and non-invasive and I gradually became more aware of of the various sensations I was experiencing such as feelings of warmth and cold and a rippling/pulsing effect. So I have no idea how it works but would certainly recommend that everyone tries it for themselves and hope they have as much success as I have.
A Burton patient writes: I have always found it difficult to relax and since suffering with dystonia, it was even worse. Cranio-sacral therapy gave me the opportunity to relax and enabled me to carry this on in my daily life. So glad I tried it.
Margaret Costello (Staffordshire) writes:
I first came to Richard and Cranio-sacral Therapy when I had been suffering with a frozen shoulder for approximately eighteen months. Having tried various other options, acupuncture, physiotherapy and osteopathy, nothing had made any noticeable difference.
I wasn’t expecting cranio-sacral therapy to be an instant fix, so was prepared to settle into the treatment and see what happened. It took some months and I was actually giving up on any long term relief for my frozen shoulder, however, I had a feeling of well being that I hadn’t experienced before and was therefore happy to continue.
It happened quite suddenly and unexpectedly, my body seemed to tune in to the problem with my shoulder and the results were extraordinary, amazing, fascinating and a little bit scary to someone who has never experienced the body healing itself before.
I can’t thank Richard enough for his professionalism, dedication, patience and understanding , I was within a week or two totally pain free, no more frozen shoulder.
Earlier this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Once again I turned to Richard and cranio-sacral therapy. They have helped me cope, firstly with the trauma of such a diagnosis and then the operation itself and also the very severe drug treatment regime which I had to put my body through. I’ve had some very dark days, and my body has had to endure more than a body should and I know for certain that without the cranio-sacral therapy, my journey through this dreadful ordeal would have been so much more difficult, sometimes almost impossible to cope with. Richard and cranio-sacral therapy have brought me through, one step at a time. For which I thank him most sincerely.
Taylor Colebrook of Burton writes, Mr Evans really helped me with my work. Especially with my spellings and memory, also my handwriting. He is really friendly and the therapy is relaxing.
FAQs Do you have public liability insurance?Yes, I have to have it to be a member of The Association of Reflexologists and as a Registered Craniosacral therapist. I am insured up to £5m.
Do I have to be a believer, for the treatments to work? No, frequently, sceptical people are amazed at the effects the therapies can have. The treatments work on the body directly and circumvent the brain. Sceptics find it hard to let go at first, but they quickly come to value the deep relaxation the treatments bring.
What happens in a healing crisis?A healing crisis is the body's natural reaction to a complementary therapy. It does not happen to everyone, but you could experience a headache, great tiredness, dryness of the throat. In a few cases people may experience nausea or discomfort, but these will all pass in a few days. If you are unhappy about what has happened, do not hesitate to contact me to discuss it.
